Agfa APX 100 is the discontinued classic Agfa B&W film at ISO 100 — produced in Germany by Agfa-Gevaert through the 1990s and 2000s, then discontinued when Agfa exited the consumer film market in the late 2000s. The "APX" branding was briefly revived around 2014 by Lupus Imaging (the company that acquired some Agfa rights) as a relabeled product (likely Kentmere or Foma origin), but the original German-manufactured APX 100 is no longer in production.

Key features

  • ISO 100 rated; fine cubic grain
  • Neutral-cool palette — Agfa's signature B&W rendering
  • Wide latitude (±1½ stops)
  • Discontinued as the original German-manufactured product; freezer stock + relabeled "APX 100" by Lupus Imaging may still be findable
  • Available historically in 35mm and 120

Workflow

  • Box-speed development: D-76 1:1 at 9 min, HC-110 Dil B at 5 min, Rodinal 1:50 at 11 min
  • Push to EI 200 cleanly; EI 400 with grain
  • Pull to EI 50 in dilute developer
  • Standard fix and wash

Practical notes

  • Modern alternative: Ilford FP4 Plus 125 is the closest current product (slightly faster but similar character); Fomapan 100 for the value-conscious option
  • The relabeled "APX 100" sold 2014+ is functionally a Kentmere or Foma product; behavior differs from original German APX 100
  • Original German APX 100 freezer stock from 2008-2010 is highly sought-after for the distinctive Agfa rendering
  • Cold storage extends shelf life
