Mamiya Mamiya-Sekor C 80mm f/2.8

NormalMount: Mamiya 64580mmf/2.8 – f/22
Introduced: 1984

Mamiya Sekor C 80mm f/2.8 N is the standard normal lens for the Mamiya 645 system — equivalent to roughly a 50mm field of view in 35mm terms on the 6×4.5 cm format (645 normal lens is ~75mm; 80mm sits slightly long of true normal). The most-common kit lens on used Mamiya 645 bodies from the 1000S through Pro TL eras.

Key features

  • Mamiya 645 bayonet — fits all 645 bodies (1000S, J, Super, Pro, Pro TL)
  • 6-element/5-group double-Gauss formula with multi-coating (N variant)
  • 58mm filter thread
  • Focal-plane shutter operation — speed set on body (no leaf shutter; a few "L" leaf-shutter Sekor lenses exist separately)
  • Manual aperture + manual focus
  • Close-focus to ~70 cm at 1:7.7 magnification

Use case + rendering

The 80mm f/2.8 N is the universal Mamiya 645 portrait + general lens. On 6×4.5 it produces moderate DoF — at f/2.8 about equivalent to f/1.7 on 35mm. Sharper than the older Mamiya 645 80mm f/1.9 at shared apertures; the f/2.8 is the practical choice for most work.

The 645 system shoots 16 frames per 120 roll (vs 12 on 6×6, 10 on 6×7), which makes it the most film-economical medium format and a natural fit for editorial and reportage workflows where shot count matters.
