Pentax SMC Pentax 67 165mm f/4 LS
The leaf-shutter ("LS") variant of the Pentax 67 165mm — a separate lens from the standard 165mm f/4 (focal-plane). Like the 90mm f/2.8 LS, the 165mm f/4 LS contains its own shutter inside the lens barrel, allowing flash sync at all shutter speeds up to 1/500 second vs. the body's 1/30 X-sync.
The trade-off vs. the standard 165mm f/2.8 (focal-plane): one full stop slower maximum aperture (f/4 vs f/2.8), in exchange for the leaf-shutter flash-sync capability. Photographers shooting fashion, editorial portraits with strobe, or any flash-driven work at portrait length choose the LS; photographers wanting maximum aperture for natural-light portraiture choose the f/2.8.
In 35mm-equivalent terms, 165mm on 6×7 is roughly 80mm full-frame — classic portrait length with the leaf-shutter advantage Pentax built specifically for studio and editorial use cases. Mounts on the inner bayonet; 67mm filter thread. Notably less common on the used market than the standard 165mm f/2.8; specialty users seeking it should expect a price premium reflecting its scarcity.
Notes
Less common than the standard 165mm f/2.8; trades a stop of speed for built-in shutter.
