Fujinon SWD 65mm f/5.6
Fujinon SWD 65mm f/5.6 is the fast Super Wide Deluxe LF wide-angle at 65mm — Fujinon's equivalent to the Schneider Super-Angulon series, with the SWD ("Deluxe") designation indicating multi-coating and improved optical correction. Equivalent to roughly 18mm on 35mm when used on 4×5.
Key features
- Mount: Copal 0 shutter (1s to 1/500, X-sync at all speeds)
- Focal length: 65mm
- Maximum aperture: f/5.6
- Image circle: ~170mm at f/22 — covers 4×5 with limited movements
- Optical formula: Symmetrical wide-angle, multi-coated
- EBC multi-coating — Fujinon's high-performance coating, comparable to Schneider's MC
Use case + rendering
The 65 SWD is the architectural-interior + dramatic-landscape ultra-wide for 4×5. The bright f/5.6 aperture is meaningful — older SW 65mm lenses were typically f/8, making ground-glass focusing notably dim. Sharp by f/16-f/22 with reasonable corner performance once stopped down.
