Fujinon T 400mm f/8
Fujinon T 400mm f/8 is the long telephoto LF design at 400mm — the longer T sibling, providing 400mm focal length on field cameras with limited bellows draw.
Key features
- Mount: Copal 1 shutter (1s to 1/400, X-sync at all speeds)
- Focal length: 400mm (effective; physical length shorter than 400mm)
- Maximum aperture: f/8
- Image circle: ~247mm at f/22 — covers 4×5 with movements; covers 5×7 tightly
- Optical formula: Telephoto (asymmetric)
- Single-coated older; multi-coated later
Use case + rendering
The 400 T is the portable 4×5 long-tele — useful for distant landscape isolation, architectural detail, and other compositions requiring long focal length on field cameras. The telephoto formula makes 400mm practical on cameras whose bellows wouldn't accommodate a hypothetical 400mm symmetric plasmat.
Compatible cameras
- Toyo 45A / Toyo 45AII / Toyo 45G — verify bellows draw
- Cambo SC / Cambo Calumet 45NX — extension rails likely needed
- Graflex Speed Graphic / Graflex Super Graphic
