Schneider Macro Symmar HM 180mm f/5.6
Schneider Macro-Symmar HM 180mm f/5.6 is the macro-optimized 4×5 + 5×7 plasmat at portrait focal length — the longer macro Schneider design, optimized for 1:1 to 1:5 reproduction ratios. Pairs well with the 120 Macro-Symmar as a two-lens macro kit.
Key features
- Mount: Copal 1 shutter (1s to 1/400, X-sync at all speeds)
- Focal length: 180mm

- Image circle: ~144mm at 1:1 reproduction; ~280mm at infinity
- Optical formula: HM-optimized macro plasmat with floating-element correction

Use case + rendering
The 180 Macro-Symmar HM is the product / commercial macro 4×5 + 5×7 lens at slightly longer working distance than the 120. The longer focal length gives more working space between lens and subject — useful for macro-portraiture, product work where lighting needs room, and cases where the 120's working distance is uncomfortable.
Compatible cameras
- Toyo 45A / Toyo 45AII / Toyo 45G — extension rails essential
- Cambo SC / Cambo Calumet 45NX — extension rails strongly recommended
- 5×7 + 8×10 view cameras
