Schneider G-Claron 210mm f/9
Schneider G-Claron 210mm f/9 is the process-lens / macro 4×5 + 5×7 dialyte — a popular choice for LF macro and alternative-process work at portrait-tele focal length.
Key features
- Mount: Copal 1 shutter (1s to 1/400, X-sync at all speeds)
- Focal length: 210mm
- Maximum aperture: f/9
- Image circle: ~260mm at infinity; ~380mm at 1:1 reproduction
- Optical formula: 6-element/4-group dialyte
- Single-coated on older production
- Process-lens optimization — peak performance at 1:1; usable at infinity
Use case + rendering
The 210 G-Claron is the alternative-process portrait + product-macro lens — the most-popular G-Claron focal length among contemporary alt-process photographers. Sharp by f/22 across the field; the dialyte design produces a distinctive rendering character that some photographers prefer for portrait work over the more-clinical Apo-Symmar.
The slow f/9 aperture and dim ground glass are the price for the larger image circle.
