Schneider Super-Angulon 165mm f/8

Schneider Super-Angulon 165mm f/8 is the 5×7 + 8×10 wide-angle Schneider LF lens — equivalent to roughly 50mm on 35mm when used on 5×7, or moderate-wide on 8×10. The 165mm Super-Angulon is among the wider 8×10-coverage Schneider lenses, balanced against the 210mm Super-Angulon for 8×10 wide work.
Key features
- Mount: Copal 3 shutter (1s to 1/125, X-sync at all speeds)
- Focal length: 165mm
- Maximum aperture: f/8
- Image circle: ~386mm at f/22 — covers 8×10 with movements; covers 11×14 tightly
- Optical formula: 8-element/4-group symmetrical wide-angle
- Multi-coating on later production
Use case + rendering
The 165 Super-Angulon is the landscape + architectural wide for 8×10 photography. The 386mm image circle supports front rise/fall sufficient for architectural perspective control. On 5×7 the field-of-view is "normal" rather than wide — the lens does double duty as a 5×7 normal alternative to symmetrical-plasmat 210mm options.
