Schneider Super-Angulon XL 58mm f/5.6
Schneider Super-Angulon XL 58mm f/5.6 is the ultra-wide XL Schneider 4×5 + 5×7 lens — equivalent to roughly 16mm on 35mm. Smaller image-distortion concerns than the 47mm XL while preserving the extra-large image circle for movements.
Key features
- Mount: Copal 0 shutter (1s to 1/500, X-sync at all speeds)
- Focal length: 58mm
- Maximum aperture: f/5.6
- Image circle: ~166mm at f/22 — covers 4×5 with generous movements; covers 5×7 tightly
- Optical formula: 8-element/6-group XL wide-angle
- Multi-coating standard
Use case + rendering
The 58 XL is the dramatic-but-controllable wide for 4×5 — wider than 65mm but with movements rivaling the 90mm. Often the choice when the 47 XL feels too extreme but the 65 doesn't permit the architectural rise needed.
